YOUTUBE as a medium for learning English MEDIA

Hi everyone, how are you?  Good health and always be happy.  Welcome back to Irma's note blog.  On this occasion, I want to review one of the social media which I think is very helpful for learning English.  I will review Youtube social media.  Already know what Youtube is right?  I think almost all people use this application.  Especially teenagers who often see interesting content on Youtube.

For further explanation, let's see the following review.

 1. Youtube

 YouTube is a video sharing website created by three former PayPal employees in February 2005. This website allows users to upload, watch, and share videos. [8]  The company is headquartered in San Bruno, California, and uses Adobe Flash Video and HTML5 technology to display a wide variety of user / creator-generated video content, including movie clips, TV clips, and music videos.  In addition, amateur content such as video blogs, short original videos, and educational videos is also included on this site.

 With so many videos on YouTube, YouTube is one of the most popular social media for all people.  In it there are various types of content such as traveling, education, entertainment etc. which can help us find information quickly and easily and free of cost so it is very suitable to be used as a learning medium.  Here are some of the advantages and disadvantages of YouTube as a learning medium.

 2. BENEFITS OF YOUTUBE AS A LEARNING MEDIA

  There are several benefits that we can feel from the YouTube social media as learning.

  1) Free

 Only with internet quota, we can use YouTube at any time for free.  Can be accessed via the web or the YouTube application itself.  That way this will make it easier for students to study easily without thinking about financial problems.

  2) Easy to access

  We can easily access the YouTube application without registering an account.  Just go to the Youtube web or write keywords such as "grammar learning video material", then the search results on Google will easily lead us to connect with Youtube and choose to share videos that suit our needs easily.

  3) A wide variety of videos

  On YouTube there are lots of videos that are very varied and interesting.  ComScore data shows that there are more than 93 million unique viewers in Indonesia (over 18 years of age) who watch videos on YouTube every month.  From this data, it can be concluded that the number of Youtube users also has an impact on the number of content creators who increase the number of videos.

 4) Extensive information

  YouTube users are not only from Indonesia but from various parts of the world.  This makes the information we get broad.

 Weaknesses of Youtube as a learning medium

  I don't think Youtube has many shortcomings as a learning medium.  There are only two things that might be a little annoying when using Youtube as a learning tool.  Among the others:

  1.) Advertising

  In fact, this is very natural if there are advertisements when we watch videos because it becomes an income for content creators.  But sometimes if we are focused on studying, then an advertisement suddenly appears which makes our concentration a little distracted.

  2.) A lot of content outside of learning

  Because Youtube is not a special learning medium, it creates a wide variety of content on YouTube.  So that makes us have to be extra wise in using it.  The varied amount of content sometimes makes us turn away from instructional videos which tend to be boring if we stare at them for a long time.  Now because of the large selection of videos, sometimes we easily switch content to entertainment content that we like and leave learning content that we have to complete first.

 So that's my review of Youtube as a learning medium.  YouTube is one of my favorite social media.  Due to the several benefits provided.  So many reviews from me.  Hopefully this is useful for all of us.  Look forward to other information on Irma's notes.  Thank you .
